The creative Concepts Foundation Inc. conducted a creative writing and summer drama production. The trailer of the production showcased above will soon be available for sale.

Here’s a review by one of the attendees of the occasion, Mrs. Pat Ryan:
Our children are our future…we must never leave even one child behind.” This was the theme of the short addressed delivered by the Honourable Reuben Meade as he addressed the small audience who had come to witness the outcome of 210 hours of exercises in the Creative Writing summer project organised by the Creative Concepts Foundation, Inc.–brainchild of Karen ‘Lioness’ Allen. This was Mr. Meade’s firs social event as Chief Minister and a fitting tribute to the youngsters who had waited for more than a week to share their work.

There were rap performances: ‘My Summertime’, ‘School Days’, and ‘We are the Children of the World’ by Je’Quan Nicholson, Je’Keel Nicholson, and Encousie Wilson respectively. Tanya Bovell and Malika Greene sang ‘I am not afraid’, a balanced performance in which they took turns at solos. Survivor then joined them for an African display, a dance to African rhythms. Their simple costumes were very effective. Contrast was provided by Shanel’s solo ribbon dance and the group salsa to Arrow’s Hot, Hot, Hot.

Encousie Wilson delivered a speech entitled “Montserrat’s People”, in which he spoke of some of the things which put a special stamp on us even sometimes make us seem “peculiar” to others…we remain nonetheless Montserrat’s people. It would have been good to have a copy of all the spoken pieces…an idea for future performances.

Karen Allen’s feature address brought us back to the Honourable Chief Minister’s opening theme, as she commented that we seemed to be neglecting the younger generation by not passing on the lessons taught to us in our youth, leaving them to stumble in the dark and learn the hard way. It is as if each of us is leaving that job to “someone else”…parents to teachers, fathers to mothers and vice versa. In the meantime, the youngsters fall through the gaps.

The evening ended with a short fashion show and presentation of certificates. Each of the your participants also received a share of money raised from ticket sales and donations. It was good to be there, and what was lacking in attendance was more than made up for by the enthusiasm of the youngsters and the appreciation shown by those present. We are already looking forward to next year’s performance.
