On 23 July 09, top civil servants in Montserrat were among a wide cross section of regional representatives who participated in an interactive video conference.

The Government of Montserrat reports that Sir Howard Fergus, Acting Governor; Chief Minister, Dr. Lowell Lewis; and Mr. Reuben Meade, among other top civil servants, attended the interactive regional public discussion.

The Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU); the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Monetary Council; and the Organization of East Caribbean States (OECS) Union Task Force hosted this regional discussion.

This video conference lasted two and a half hours and focused on the OECS Economic Union and the ECCU’s Eight Point Stabilisation and Growth Programme.

The Government Information Unit’s (GIU) Press Officer, Glesford James, says, “It was a historic conference being the first time that a regional public discussion with top government officials and other leaders has been organized to advance the economic agenda of the region. The economy and the way forward for the countries of the OECS are current on every body’s mind and as such a discussion of this magnitude was not only timely but also very necessary.”

This regional interactive public discussion’s video presentations and debates were carried live by radio and television.
