As reported by the Ministry of Health, effective 1 September 2009, the Ministry will implement its fee increase for currently available health services.

The Ministry of Health says, “The fees charged by the Ministry of Health, for the most part, have remained unchanged for several years. The amount currently spent on health care has increased by four times the amount spent in 1995. Many of the fees were unrealistic and consequently the Government of Montserrat has taken the decision to increase user fees….”

Increased fees will affect the ambulance service; the casualty services; cemetery services; histology services; community nursing services; delivery services; dental services; x-ray services; laboratory services; bacteriology services; mortuary services; operating theatre services; physiotherapy services; hospital ward services; and pharmacy services.

All fees will be payable at the Medical Records department. Outside of normal business hours, public holidays, and weekends, fees should be paid at the Casualty department.

According to the Ministry, fees are to be paid in advance of services being provided. Additionally, there will also be an application of the CARICOM rate. This is currently one and a half times that for a Montserratian resident.

Any other patients will pay twice as much as a Montserratian resident.
