Montserrat is hosting its first annual Dive Festival on June 27th to July 14th, 2009.

According to the Montserrat Tourist Board (MTB), the Green Monkey Dive Shop is hosting its first annual Dive Festival. With the support of the MTB and the Tourism Challenge Fund, the Dive Festival will include an Underwater Discovery Day for children ages 8-14.

The Green Monkey Dive Shop says, “This specially designed event will provide children with an opportunity to learn about our underwater world and give snorkeling or scuba diving a try. The day will begin at noon with an hour of classroom instruction on the coral reefs and their importance to the marine environment, as well as fish identification basics. Then, it’s off to the beach for ‘discover snorkeling’ and ‘discover scuba’ training with our staff.”

According to the Green Monkey, this program is free and open to all residents of and visitors to Montserrat.

The Dive Festival will be held in conjunction with Montserrat’s biannual Reef Check Program. The Festival will also include a free coral reef course; a special dive in the waters surrounding the uninhabited island of Redonda; and top side activities designed to acquaint visitors with the Emerald Isle.
