“Ten places would be made available to OECS students for the first intake of students commencing August 2009. The OECS Secretariat intends to significantly increase the public awareness of the programme in the coming months, starting with a presentation to OECS Ministers of Education at the annual meeting in June in Anguilla, in the hope that most students will avail themselves of the opportunities that it provides.”

“The information gathered at the meeting will guide the decision making process in determining an appropriate architectural theme for the new town which showcase Montserrat’s signature town giving it a special brand and identity.”

The GOM reports that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the challenges and opportunities; weaknesses and strengths of the sector; to highlight significant activities within the industries; and to propose recommended actions.

She also revealed her gratitude to the GOM and DFID for their approval and support of the Capacity Building Support Package to the Housing Unit.

This initial meeting discussed economic development; functional corporation; finance and institutional matters; Economic Union Work Program; Economic Union Public Awareness Campaign; Implications for the OECS Economic Union in the context of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas and CSME Contingency Rights; and social and environmental issues.

Many attendees were hearing about the island for the first time, and those that knew about it, learned that there was more to Montserrat than just the volcano. Also many divers were interested in Montserrat because it was not as commercialized as other sites in the Caribbean.”
