Mr. Jeff Ansell, a consultant, reports that the initial stages of an Executive Council directive to support the creation of the Montserrat Customs Revenue Service (MCRS).
According to Mr. Ansell, “The new department will be created by merging the Customs and Excise Department and the Inland Revenue Department.”
As reported, the purpose of the creation of the MCRS is to modernize and enhance the revenue generation and collection systems to maximize the level of internally generated revenue.
A development team comprising of two members of each department has been established, in addition to two representatives from the PSRU.
Ansell says, “The Team’s first action will be to develop an Implementation Plan for consideration by Executive Council in 2009.”
