The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Culture, Tourism and Sports (MYACTS), created earlier this year, is slated to donate $270,000 for the 2008 Montserrat Festival.
Official reports indicate that “…Culture has been supportive for the Festival over the years and has contributed over $170,000 to the Festival Committee already for 2008…another $100,000 has been approved for the cultural activity.”
The Chief Minister’s Office reports, “The Chief Minister, Dr. Lowell Lewis, applauds all the volunteers and participants involved in the year end spectacle, and wish them every success for Festival 2008.”
The Permanent Secretary for MYACTS says, “Hundreds of Montserratians are expected to return home to celebrate with their friends and family this year, despite the global economic downturn. We are looking forward to the day when the year end festival would be able to operate without financial assistance from Government. Until such time, the Montserrat Festival will continue to receive a subvention.”
