Recently, a high powered legal team came to the defense of a Montserratian lawyer.
According to a press release from Warren Cassell, of the Warren Cassell Show and a practicing attorney, several Caribbean lawyers have thrown their support behind Montserrat’s talk show host, Attoney-at-Law, Mr. Warren Cassell.
A press release reveals that this legal team is in a bid to clear Mr. Cassell’s name, after being charged with conspiracy to defraud.
Reports indicate that “this high powered legal team, which is headed by Montserrat Attorney, Mr. David Brandt, includes lawyer Karl Markham, of Allen Markham and Associates law firm operating out of Montserrat. Ivenia Benjamin, of the Dominican firm; Benjamin Chambers, former Senior Prosecutor from the office of DPP in Jamaica; and Terrel Butler, from the Common Wealth of the Bahamas.”
The supervisor of Mr. Cassell’s legal defense, Mr. David Brandt, says, “Their client is absolutely and unequivocally innocent of the charges, and the team will be defending the charges vehemently. In the meantime, my client continues to practice law and goes about a normal life.”
Mr. Leon Chaka Symister, from Antigua – another member of the legal team, says, “The charges are baseless. Those bringing them are callous, reckless, and unprofessional, in the manner in which the acted. We are confident that at the end of the day that our client’s name will be cleared. We are concerned; however, that they may be players who are bent on irreparably damaging the reputation of our client. We are prepared and eager to zealously defend such charges.”
According to a statement issued by Mr. Cassell, “On behalf of the Cassell family, we proudly stand next to Warren who we know could never have committed any of the allegations he is accused of. We know the allegations are without any merit and are being pushed by those with only malicious and evil intentions. We will fight these charges to the end to clear Warren’s good name.”
Records indicate that Mr. Cassell has been charged with eight counts of conspiracy to defraud and one count of making an untrue statement. The Preliminary Inquiry is scheduled for the 9th of February 2009.
