The Government of Montserrat has communicated with the Managing Directors of LIAT and Carib Aviation illustrating teething and operational problems with flight arrangements for Montserrat.

According to the Government Information Unit (GIU), “Both organizations have given the assurance that they will conduct a full review of the operating systems in order to remedy the situation.”

Flights to Montserrat continue. Currently, Carib Aviation operates three regular flights daily. The airline also assures the public of Montserrat that “additonal flights would be provided as necessary.”

The GIU says, “In his letter to the airline officials, the Chief Minister informed them that the Government of Montserrat is committed to improving air services to and from Montserrat and will make further improvements to the terminal building a priority.”

Chief Minister, Dr. Lowell Lewis, says, “All staff should avail themselves of training and experience in customer service skills and management must aim for a 100 percent punctuality on flight departures.”

Dr. Lowell Lewis reports, “We shall be making further improvements at the terminal building a priority. We must expand the departure lounge to allow more space for passengers, a second security screening line, duty free sales, and a VIP lounge. This facility is critical to the redevelopment of our Tourism sector, so I believe we can make a case for investment in these items as well as possible extension of the runaway in the future. Such an extension would certainly allow the twin otter to operate at full capacity without weight and wind restrictions and possible after dark.”

Additionally, the GIU says, “The Montserrat Tourist Board is shortly to establish a more permanent presence at the VC Bird airport to assist all travelers to Montserrat.”
