Montserrat’s Chief Minister, Dr. Lowell LewisToday, February 26, 2008, a little after 8am when the Legislative Counsel (LEGCO) was about to adjourn, Montserrat’s Chief Minister, Hon. Lowell Lewis, tried to ask permission for one of the members of his party to address the Counsel.

The Speaker of the house cited regulations that summed up to the fact that a request could not be granted to address LEGCO before an adjournment unless a written response detailing the exact issue or question to be addressed is submitted a minimum of 3 days for a scheduled hearing.

Honourable David BrandtThe Hon. David Brandt, after being recognized by the Speaker, emphasized that he thought the request to address the Counsel should have been allowed, referring to himself as Leader of the Opposition.
Former Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing, and the EnvironmentAfter this proclamation by Mr. Brandt, a third interruption of the adjournment occurred by recently ousted Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing & the Environment, Mrs. Annie Dyer-Howe. She requested permission be granted to her to address LEGCO, reasoning that she should be given an opportunity to say why she was relieved of her ministerial duties because the news of her recently revoked powers were released to the media along with her name. She stated that the denial to allow her to address the Counsel made her feel as if her human rights have been violated.

Former Minister of Communications and Works, Idabelle Meade Later today, during a public announcement on ZJB Radio Montserrat, former Minister of Communications and Works, Ms. Idabelle Meade said that the current Minister of Education, Health & Community Services, Hon. John Osborne received a letter from his NPLM party firing him as head of the party.
